Aspire Development celebrate milestone as first cohort of apprentices from Wincanton successfully complete management apprenticeship with 90% receiving a merit or above.

Aspire Development, who became appointed on the Register of Apprenticeship Training Providers in April 2017, began delivering the management development programmes in partnership with leading third-party logistics and supply chain provider Wincanton, in May last year.

This month, Doug Dubber (Sainsburys, Sherburn in Elmet), Stephanie Smith (Wincanton, Portbury), Matthew Pedder (Wincanton Finance, Chippenham), Sian Thomas (Nestle & Diagio, Coles Jill), Ben Owen (Screwfix, Trentham), Darren Workman (B&Q, Worksop), Jen Heron (B&Q, Swindon) and Vitor Gomes (B&Q, Southampton) became the first of Aspire’s learners to complete their programme after successfully completing their End Point Assessment.

Running over the course of 12 months, the Get Ahead programme helps individuals build skills, knowledge and experience in areas including managing people and performance, improving business processes, building relationships and leading a commercial business.

Discussing the programme, Darren Workman, Operations Shift Manager at Wincanton, said “The programme has supported me to develop my leadership and management skills in a variety of ways. I’ve built on my coaching and mentoring skills, learned about budgets and gained a greater insight into how to communicate more effectively”.

“Completing the programme was a great achievement and a proud moment for me. My participation in the programme has opened greater opportunities for me within the business. I now have more responsibilities, I’ve progressed within my current role and I’m looking forward to what the future holds”.

Stephanie Smith, who has recently been promoted to Transport Manager following the completion of the programme, added “The programme was brilliant, and I learned so much. It involved practical application rather just theory. It was also Wincanton specific which made it relevant.”

“I’d definitely recommend this programme to others, it’s a great way to develop business knowledge and skills and I don’t think I’d be in the job position I am now without it”.

Alison Wheatly, Operations Director at Aspire, commented “Hearing the news of our first learners passing their End Point Assessment is something we’ve been looking forward to since becoming a registered Apprenticeship provider”.

“Seeing how far each of them have come and the progress they have made is a warm reminder of what our Apprenticeships are about and the difference it can make to both personal and business performance.”

“On behalf of everyone at Aspire, I’d like to congratulate them on their fantastic achievements and wish them all the best for their future at Wincanton”.
