Head of IT in Position at Europa.

Leading independent logistics operator Europa Worldwide Group has appointed a Head of IT at a very exciting time for the business as it embarks on opening its biggest facility to date, which comes with a raft of IT requirements.

Chris Mitchell joins the specialist road, air & sea, warehouse and show freight operator with more than 20 years’ experience, having previously worked at a major Electronic Point of Sale (EPOS) provider in the hospitality and retail sector as its Head of IT.

Chris, who is responsible for Europa’s IT helpdesk and infrastructure teams, has hit the ground running with the business’s most ambitious project to date – launching a new ‘best in class’ 3PL warehousing and logistics facility at Midlands Logistics Park in Corby, Northants, which is set to open next year.

Full of cutting-edge automation and IT services, the site will give a visionary path to not only the business but services provided to customers. Also responsible for ‘future-proofing’ the business’s IT system, Chris said he has plans to grow his team in the next 12 months in order to manage the growing demands of the business.

He said: “What appealed to me so much about Europa was its core values and visionary investment within IT allowing for the department to be instrumental in the company’s success. I really like the fact that it is a major player in the logistics sector with profits rising year-on-year but that there isn’t that overly-corporate atmosphere which exists in a lot of large organisations.

“As well as managing the IT requirements of the new facility in Corby, another of my key objectives is providing direction to the IT team. My strength in cyber security and business continuity allows me to enrich services offered whilst providing a secure environment for our staff. Having a great team behind me is the fuel for our success, instilling a “let’s get it done” attitude is a driving point of my role.”

Europa now has over 900 employees, with that figure growing year-on-year – and Chris’s ambition is to grow his team to ensure all IT demands are dealt with swiftly and efficiently.

He added: “I’d like to enhance the team over the next few years to make sure we are growing in line with the business’s current trends. My department’s key focus is simple: security, availability, scalability, future vision and most importantly team work.”

Europa’s IT Director Richard Litchfield added: “I’m thrilled that we now have Chris on board. He has a wealth of experience which is so valuable and relevant to our current plans and I’m looking forward to seeing him develop new solutions for our ever-growing workforce.”

Europa Worldwide Group is a specialist road, air & sea, warehouse and showfreight operator employing more than 900 people across its 16 sites in the UK, as well as Hong Kong and Belgium with representation in 100 countries.
