The annual Parcel and Postal Technology International Awards celebrated its 11th year of recognising the latest developments in the postal and parcel industry. The Award ceremony took place at PARCEL+POST EXPO in Amsterdam on Tuesday 1st October at 5:00pm.

No less than eight winners were announced, rewarding exceptional performance and innovation across all areas of the business, including new business development, sorting and fulfilment, last-mile, final-mile, service provision, supply, environmental achievement and retail and customer service. This year, the Republic of Ireland’s An Post, was the stand out performer, scooping two of the most prestigious awards: ‘Service Provider of the Year’ and ‘New Business Development of the Year’.

The state-owned provider of postal and parcel services in the Republic of Ireland was rewarded by the international judging panel for its exceptional performance across the board. In the New Business Development category it was its Address Point Service that took the plaudits. An Post has teamed up with charities and service providers to launch Address Point, a ground-breaking, free personal postal address and letter collection service for people who are homeless or living in temporary accommodation.

In the Service Provider of the Year category, arguably the most prestigious award of the night, it was An Post’s impressive growth and its turnaround in profitability which caught the attention of the judges. In March 2019 An Post revealed an increase in its revenue and operating profit following the launch of its business transformation strategy in 2018. The company announced that revenue reached Euro 897m in 2018 – an increase of 7%. It attributed this to a 40% volume growth in parcels in the face of a global decline in mail due to online alternatives. In March the company also announced that had rebranded, with a new green logo and a range of important new financial and e-commerce service innovations. An Post is also investing in reducing its environmental impact with a phased ‘Eco Plan’ that incudes a new fleet of electric post vans and delivery tricycles, which will deliver zero carbon emissions in Dublin’s city center by the end of 2019.

There were many other worthy winners on the night, with a wide range of organisations collecting well-earned Awards for exceptional performance across all the categories. The Sorting and Fulfilment Hub Technology of the Year category was won by Prime Vision for its Chinese Address Reader; the Last Mile Delivery Innovation of the Year award was won by Cleveron for its self-driving parcel delivery robot; the Final Mile Innovation of the Year award was won by bpost for its in-home delivery solution; the Retail/Customer Service Innovation of the Year award was won by Posti Finland for its Unmanned Postal Kiosk; the Environmental Achievement of the Year award was won by Qatar Post; and the Supplier of the Year category was won by Solystic.

Every year, PARCEL+POST EXPO welcomes more than 3,000 people, from over 100 countries, through its doors as it maintains its position as the global meeting place for the postal, parcel and last-mile delivery industry.
