Cranfield University academic, Professor Richard Wilding, OBE, has been awarded a national teaching fellowship, the most prestigious individual award in higher education.
The 2019 winners were announced by Advance HE today, (5 August), following a rigorous selection process. Fifty four new National Teaching Fellows and 15 winning teams in the Collaborative Award for Teaching Excellence have been recognised.
Professor Wilding, OBE, said:
“It is an honour and privilege to receive this national award. Teaching and education is not an individual activity, it also reflects on the dedicated professional colleagues I work with at Cranfield and within the logistics, transport and supply chain profession globally. Through our educational endeavours we have created significant economic, environmental and societal impact.”
Professor Wilding is Professor of Supply Chain Strategy at Cranfield School of Management and Chairman of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport. He is recognised globally for his thought leadership and impact by applying world-class andragogy to influence and motivate individuals to action in business.
Professor Sir Peter Gregson, Cranfield’s Chief Executive and Vice-Chancellor, said:

His expertise in the logistics, transport and supply chain management is recognised internationally and his contributions to the sector have continued to improve learning and teaching for the benefit of today’s students.”
The National Teaching Fellowship Scheme and the Collaborative Award for Teaching Excellence (CATE) showcase the outstanding impact of individuals and teams who teach or support learning in UK higher education, recognising their success and providing a platform to share the learning from their practice.
Nominees are peer reviewed by teaching and learning professionals across the HE sector and are independent to Advance HE. Nominees are required to provide evidence of reach, value and impact to students and excellence within the teaching profession.
On gaining an award, each National Teaching Fellow has a role in becoming an ambassador for the scheme and supporting the ongoing enhancement of learning and teaching.

The winners will receive their awards at a special ceremony on 16 October in Manchester.
