KVH Videotel™ is delighted to announce that it has won a total of nine awards in four recent prestigious international film festivals, including grand, gold, and silver awards—five in total—for one particular training film, “Cyber Security at Sea.”

WorldFest-Houston, the 51st Annual International Independent Film Festival, recognised KVH Videotel with a Platinum Award for “Report a Near-Miss, Save a Life,” and Gold Awards for “Alarm Management,” “An Introduction to Fuel Oil Bunkering,” and “Cyber Security at Sea.” The festival’s awards committee praised the company’s production and content teams for the clarity and accuracy of their filming and editing. WorldMedia Festival, held in Hamburg, presented its Grand Award and a Gold Award to “Cyber Security at Sea.” The 2018 Communicator Awards, based in New York City, recognised “Alarm Management” and “Cyber Security at Sea” with Silver Awards. The US International Film & Video Festival, based in California, recognised “Cyber Security at Sea” with a Creative Excellence Award.

KVH Videotel’s training programmes help seafarers understand their role and responsibilities in helping to improve onboard safety and performance. In turn, they improve seafarers’ skill levels and help to minimise accidents. The programmes reflect changes in regulations and important industry subjects. For example, “Cyber Security at Sea” details how seafarers play a pivotal role in safeguarding against cyberattacks, which is a critical issue throughout the maritime industry. KVH Videotel considers the issue so important that effective this month, all vessels subscribing to KVH’s mini-VSAT Broadbandsm connectivity service will be able to receive “Cyber Security at Sea” at no cost; training seafarers is a key component of the company’s cyber security strategy.

“Winning these film awards is a great endorsement of our highly professional film crews, script writers, directors, producers, and editors,” says Mark Woodhead, KVH senior vice president, EMEA. “We pride ourselves on producing training that is engaging, improves knowledge, and drives changes in behaviour. With the assistance of subject matter experts and on-location filming, our training programmes are both authentic and powerful and these prestigious awards confirm the quality of the training content KVH Videotel provides.”
