A conference hosted by the Cumbria Transport Group, which represents local businesses involved in the logistics and transport sectors, is set to attract over 100 representatives from local employers next month.

The group represents Cumbrian companies operating in the freight and passenger transport industries and was created to drive forward employment opportunities, promote career and skills development and to influence transport policy. Members include AW Jenkinson, Burridge Transport, Carlisle City Council, SP Training, Stobart Group and Wm Armstrong.

The conference takes place on Friday 18 October from 9.30am to 1.30pm at the Cumbria LEP conference centre in Penrith.

Headline speaker for the event is North-West Traffic Commissioner Simon Evans. Evans oversees all regulatory and compliance issues with every transport operator in the region and has already attracted a rush of attendees keen to benefit from a unique opportunity to hear from this key figure.

Other sessions include an introduction to electric commercial vehicles by event sponsors NRG Fleet Services and a presentation by Philip Wanless from environmental support experts CBEN.

The conference is free to attend but booking a place is essential due to limited numbers. Bookings may be made on the Eventbrite website or by contacting Harry Mason on 01228 530 552.

Neil Robinson, Cumbria Transport Group chairman, said:

“With a number of quality speakers, including the unique opportunity to hear from the area’s transport commissioner, the conference is hugely beneficial to any local company that operates a fleet of vehicles. Cumbria Transport Group members span a diverse range of quality Cumbrian businesses and major employers across the county. The conference will look to provide essential and current advice alongside the advancement of skills and commercial activities in the transport sector.”
