Europa Road, has further strengthened its European road operation with a new partnership in Portugal.

Starting on 1st September 2019, Europa have established an exclusive co-operation with leading Portugese transport company, TORRESTIR who will handle distribution for Europa across Portugal, as well as provide the linehaul in both direction between UK and Portugal

Europa Road is one of four dedicated divisions operated by independently-owned UK logistics provider Europa Worldwide Group.

Operating the UK’s largest European groupage hub, Europa Road’s network of 13 UK branches trunk into Europa’s Dartford 1Hub, from where freight connects with daily, direct services to 30 continental hubs.

TORRESTIR and Europa Road will commence the service with four departures per week between Dartford and Portugal, and three departures per week between Portugal and Dartford.

Privately-owned TORRESTIR, established in 1962, undertake 5.2m deliveries per year across fashion, pharmaceutical, automotive and technology sectors. Employing 1,700 staff with a fleet of 1,110 vehicles, TORRESTIR supply over 30,000m2 of storage space with capacity for more than 37,000 pallets.

Dan Cook, Operations Director, Europa Worldwide Group says:

“We are delighted to announce Europa Road’s partnership with TORRESTIR. Both companies background and values are very much aligned, providing a first class, personal service for our customers. TORRESTIR’S own distribution system, strong position in the Portuguese market with a high level of existing traffic, and a focus and desire to develop the UK market, made the company a clear choice as the optimum partner.”

Dan continues:

“Portugal is not the largest market for the UK, but the Portuguese economy is strong, enjoying good levels of economic growth largely thanks to a strong manufacturing base. Historically, Portugal was a market with many specialists, but we must ensure that our overall European product is strong and comprehensive, by working with the best partners in each country, and developing market leading services to and from each country. We are starting with four groupage departures per week from the UK. This is way above the ‘sector norm’ for Portugal, and will therefore allow us to enhance transit times and strengthen the reliability for our customers. We see this partnership with TORRESTIR as a great opportunity to capitalise on future opportunities and build our position in the Portuguese/UK market, ensuring we offer our customers access to the best products, operated by the best people delivering the best service.”

Luis Torres, General Manager, TORRESTIR, adds:

“With nearly 60 years of experience, TORRESTIR has a deep understanding of the logistics landscape in Portugal and are constantly adapting to market needs. We have our own domestic distribution system in place, and so can confidently offer quality, control and track and trace data return. On the other hand, our customers are increasingly demanding the same service level across Europe, leading us to improve our network with partners such as EUROPA which shares the same vision and goals. We are very much looking forward to working with Europa Road.”
