Packaging Company Has Savings Wrapped Thanks To Cloud TMS Technology.

Packaging company Plasto-Sac UK is among the first in the sector to adopt new cloud transport management technology to improve the efficiency of its road haulage and distribution operations.

The £18m turnover company, which operates a fleet of five commercial vehicles and 20 trailers from its Congleton head office in Cheshire and depots at Skelmersdale and Spalding, uses the subscription-based TMS Go! from Mandata to improve the tracking of dozens of deliveries being delivered to customer sites across the UK

Investing in cloud technology has enabled the packaging manufacturer to reduce the time it takes to contact drivers to check on delivery schedules and vehicle locations.

This is time that is being more beneficially applied to improving vehicle planning and resource allocation, said transport manager Pete Bozon, as Plasto-Sac moves to meet growing demand for its range of corrugated packaging products, pre-made bags and lamination films for foods and non-foods both solids and liquids.

Servicing a UK wide and European customer base from its strategically located UK distribution centres, the company is a leading supplier and manufacturer of packaging.

TMS Go! is suitable for smaller transport operators such as Plasto-Sac, who want to cost-effectively benefit from computerised transport management technology but at a fraction of the cost of larger systems.

The easy-to-use, ‘out-of-the-box’ subscription-based cloud technology, enables operators to simplify and manage better ‘order-to-invoice’ processes via cost-effective paperless technology.

Pete Bozon said: “There’s no doubt that Mandata’s system is proving extremely beneficial. We can track deliveries in real time, checking on the status of a job at the press of a button. I can also see a job’s history – it’s easy to find out where drivers have been. This improves our planning capabilities and saves considerable time.”

Easy to set-up, TMS Go! is advantageous for operators looking to migrate from paper-based processes to a more sophisticated computerised transport management system.

The technology incorporates an intuitive dashboard-style drag-and-drop traffic pad that improves job planning and scheduling, enabling Plasto-Sac to more effectively plan workloads – drivers can be allocated to vehicles and loads far easier.

This contributes to improving business efficiency, added Pete Bozon, who sees plenty of potential to expand the use of TMS Go! in the months ahead.

“We have only scratched the surface of the system’s capabilities. I have no hesitation in predicting that we will come to rely more and more on it as our user experience increases and we adopt other services.

Ultimately, key performance indicators around future distribution and logistics operations will be the true measure of success for Plasto-Sac transport.

“We always work with customers to identify ways to improve our service. Information provided by TMS Go! can be shared, enabling us to identify proactive opportunities for improvement or tackle problems quickly before it’s too late,” he said.

It’s clear that Mandata’s technology is playing a significant role in enabling Pete Bozun to meet the needs of running a busy transport operation within a large organisation with the necessity to secure efficiencies in the competitive packaging sector.

Mandata is a UK leader in the provision of cost-effective transport and logistics cloud technology for companies operating in all sectors of the road haulage industry. Its software automates and simplifies complex processes and enables operators to plan, manage and monitor work through one centralised system, achieving cost savings in the process.
