The Rhenus Group opened a new logistics facility in Voronezh in the presence of many guests from the worlds of politics and business on 22 May. The centre in the south of central Russia is connected to the launch of the “Rhenus Silk Way” project. The business site will particularly develop dedicated transport and logistics solutions for customers in the agricultural sector.

The logistics centre has a warehouse measuring 20,000 square metres and 2,500 square metres of office space. The warehouse also has a cool section for storing goods that perish quickly.

“We believe there’s huge potential in the Voronezh District for us to establish ourselves as a logistics partner for trade and industry. We particularly want to provide support for our customers’ developments in the agricultural sector in future. After all, Voronezh is ideally located on the New Silk Road corridor between Europe and Asia,” said Olaf Metzger, Managing Director of OOO Rhenus Freight Logistics. A special economic zone is also being established in Voronezh at the moment to attract metal-processing industrial companies.

Rhenus also welcomed to the ceremony Dr Hinrich Snell, Head of the Food and Agricultural Department at the German Embassy in Moscow, the First Deputy Governor of the Voronezh Region, Vitaly Alexeyevich Shabalatov, as well as Matthias Schepp, Chairman of the German-Russian Chamber of Foreign Trade and the Delegate of the German Economy in the Russian Federation.

“Investments in the Voronezh District form the basis for economic growth, new jobs and increases in income. We’re therefore supporting the implementation of major projects and new settlements like that of the Rhenus Group,” said Vitaly Alexeyevich Shabalatov.
