One of the UK’s leading transport and third-party logistics specialists, Speed Welshpool, has expanded its workforce with the appointment of a new Operations Director.

Chris Tandy joins the Powys-based business, which is a member of Palletways, Europe’s largest and fastest growing express palletised freight network, with 25 years of experience in the transport industry. Previous positions have seen Chris managing UK trunking at City Link and running the UK van fleet at Sainsbury’s.

As part of his role, he’ll develop close relationships with new and existing customers, manage all day-to-day operational affairs and help the business to further its growth.

Commenting on his appointment, Chris said:

“Speed Welshpool, and in turn Palletways, are well-respected names in the logistics industry and I’m delighted to be on board. The company is a mature, established business with its sights firmly set on future growth. I’m keen to further develop its customer base, strengthen the Speed Welshpool brand and help take the business to new heights.”

Managing Director at Speed Welshpool, George Edwards, added:

“Appointing Chris demonstrates the importance we place on recruiting the best people in the industry. This is a brand-new position and will be instrumental in moving the business forward when continuing our leading growth, improving our service and becoming more efficient at what we do.”

“We’re committed to going further for our customers – and with the great deal of experience Chris has brought with him, his appointment will stand us in good stead as we grow and develop the business in the local area.”

Since launching in the late 1970s, Speed Welshpool gained a reputation as the ‘carrier’s carrier’, handling parcels in rural areas, specifically Mid-Wales. Upon joining the Palletways network in 2008, the business diversified into haulage, groupage, export and forwarding and now Speed’s team of over 40 operate a fleet of 12 HGVs and 8 vans from the main depot in Welshpool.

Speed Welshpool is one of over 115 independent transport providers that are part of the Palletways UK network. They benefit from shared expertise and resources from within the group to deliver consignments of palletised freight to market faster and more cost effectively than ever before. The Palletways Group, famed for its industry-leading IT developments and operational systems, comprises 450+ depots and 20 hub operations, through which it provides collection and distribution services across 24 European countries, including the UK.
