Supply Chain Firm Gears Up For Festive Rush Ahead Of Black Friday And Christmas.

26 November, 19

With Black Friday just days away (28th November) and the Christmas period hot on its heels, staff at Northants logistics and warehousing firm The NX Group are preparing for the annual spike in demand for its warehousing, distribution and ecommerce services with the help of their newly-upgraded and expanded systems and premises.

Earlier this year, the Crick-based firm invested substantially in its warehouse facility at Northampton’s Westgate Industrial Estate, introducing more racking and upgraded CCTV throughout. These improvements allow for greater and more efficient storage, as well as better protection for the sort of valuable, electronic goods that are traditionally in high demand on Black Friday.

This was followed by the addition of several HGVs to the firm’s fleet, which is operated by fully DBS-checked drivers employed directly by the company. Consequently, the firm is in a position to commit to making a higher number of deliveries nationwide, which will arrive safely and securely via the closed pallet network operated solely by The NX Group.

The company has also recently rolled out Road Tech’s Roadrunner Driver app across its team of drivers. The app increases the efficiency of the delivery process via a sophisticated system that enables each driver to see at a glance the collection point, delivery point and address, recipient’s contact details and a brief description of the order – all of which saves valuable time when orders start to come in thick and fast.

Senior Operations Manager Richard Mallard, who oversees the firm’s transport and warehousing processes, has seen the pre-Christmas period grow increasingly busy year on year.

“We always expect an increase in orders at this time of year, usually around 15%,” said Richard, 39, from Northampton, “but it’s busier than ever this year as more and more people opt to buy their Christmas gifts online and companies continue to stockpile goods in preparation for Brexit.”

Black Friday, which falls on the last Friday in November, sees stores and online outlets offering discounts on goods in the run-up to Christmas, and is the busiest day of the year for many companies. As The NX Group delivers most of its pallets to retailers on behalf of its various clients, the period leading up to Black Friday significantly increases the workload across the entire team.

Richard continued:

“We’re also providing ecommerce services to more customers than ever before, which brings with it a whole new set of dynamic challenges. Because it involves more targeted picking and packing, as well as home deliveries, it can be time-consuming; however, our team of ecommerce processors are on hand to ensure we continue to deliver as demand steps up.

“By updating our technology and expanding our fleet, we’re as well-prepared for the festive period as we’ve ever been. At this time of year and all year round, we’re dedicated to maintaining strong relationships with our customers and strive to meet their needs on time, every time.”
