Europa Air & Sea, a division of the ambitious and independent logistics provider Europa Worldwide Group, has been re-awarded its long-standing contract with one of the UK’s leading multi-channel specialist retailers of value books, arts, crafts, toys, gifts and stationery.

Europa Air & Sea has worked with The Works for 5 years and as of this month (March) will continue to oversee and manage its inbound movements for another term, having impressed the retailer by delivering a seamless and integrated service during one of its busiest periods to date.

The Works, which employs more than 3,000 people and operates 500 stores across the UK, serves 22.5 million customers each year, with more than 40,000 different products sold annually.

Mark Haywood, Procurement Manager of The Works, said:

“Europa performed beyond expectations during an exceptionally busy peak trading period for us in 2019. Their inbound management at both Felixstowe and Southampton ports and at the rail head in Coleshill was a slick, streamlined, end to end success.

“With exciting IT developments that will lead to operational savings being realised in Q2 of 2020, we are pleased to be extending our agreement and partnering with Europa once again.”

Since the contract was last renewed, Europa Air & Sea has handled The Works’ inbound supply chain from various worldwide origins, utilising Europa’s Order Management system to give The Works full transparency from supplier to door.

The relationship has flourished against a backdrop of growth for both companies, with Europa Air & Sea seeing an increase in turnover from £15m to £35m since 2013 and its Seafreight team shipping 10 times more containers over that time period, showcasing the division’s rapid growth.

Angus Hind, Europa Air & Sea Director, said:

“I am delighted that we have been able to continue our partnership with The Works again following an exciting period of growth for the business as it opened 50 new stores in 2019.

“At Europa Air & Sea we’ve invested heavily in our IT infrastructure and services to ensure we offer our customers the very best possible service, particularly during busy periods when efficiency and clear communication is vital.

“With the recent uncertainty caused by Brexit and Coronavirus, the supply chain has to be as transparent and versatile as possible and it remains a top priority for us to offer our valued customers such as The Works a service that they can rely on.”

Europa Air & Sea is going from strength to strength, with offices in the UK and Hong Kong and a turnover of £35 million. It has been five years since Europa centralised its Air services in Heathrow and its Sea services in Birmingham. The division aims for further growth this year, with the intention of embedding at least one Air & Sea Business Development Manager at each of Europa Road’s 13 European road freight branches throughout the UK.
