Top-Of-The-Range Hi-Way Cabs Provide Drivers A Home-From-Home On Long Distance Abnormal Load Routes.

The exceptional service provided by one of IVECO’s national network of dealerships was instrumental in CPL Transport’s purchase of two new 44-tonne Stralis trucks equipped with 510hp Cursor 13 engines.

The oversized load logistics experts purchased their first IVECO six years ago. And the service provided by Haynes Trucks in Kent to keep that vehicle – which is still in service after more than 622,000 miles – in top condition has persuaded them to go back for more.

Colin Lumsden, owner of Ashford-based CPL Transport, says: “Our first Stralis is still going strong after six years travelling throughout Europe and the UK. As well as it being an excellent vehicle, a lot of that longevity must go down to the team at Haynes Trucks.

“The aftersales care they provide is fantastic, from the six-weekly checks to all other inspections and servicing. Nothing’s ever too much trouble; that’s why we went back to them when it came to add to our fleet.”

CPL Transport delivers throughout Europe from Northern Scandinavia down to Greece and Italy which is why they chose the top-of-the-range long-distance Hi-Way cabs.

Designed with the safety and comfort of the driver in mind, both vehicles have a generous 80 x 200 cm bed, more than 30 drawers and storage compartments and a 50-litre maxi-fridge as standard. They have also been kitted out with a built-in TV and microwave oven.

Lumsden adds: “The vehicles can be home to our drivers for anything up to three weeks at a time, so we have to make sure they are as comfortable as possible. These cabs carry almost everything they could need and the feedback we’ve got from the guys is excellent.”

The 6×2 twin steer tractors were manufactured at IVECO’s factory in Madrid, Spain, before having specially designed larger fuel tanks with a capacity of 725 litres fitted at SB Components in Cambridgeshire. Due to the abnormal loads carried by CPL Transport, the vehicles must have a longer range just in case there is no suitable fuel station en-route to accommodate an abnormal load.

The Stralis also uses IVECO’s HI-SCR engine technology, which requires neither driver involvement nor downtime from forced regeneration. The patented single anti-emission system offers direct customer benefits including weight reduction, optimised fuel consumption and increased durability thanks to less complex, yet highly efficient, technology.

It also contributes to the Stralis Hi-Way’s long service intervals for the diesel particulate filter of up to 600,000 km – perfect for CPL Transport’s long-distance operations.

CPL Transport has been specialising in the transportation of abnormal loads across the UK and Europe for more than 25 years and has moved high profile items including sections of Wembley stadium’s roof, the Whitechapel Bell ahead of the 2012 Olympics and a life-sized T-Rex.
