Wincanton, the largest British logistics company, has announced plans to establish a 2.5-acre container haulage base at DP World London Gateway. The facility will be operational from early 2018, allowing Wincanton to grow its already significant national transport capabilities to benefit the company’s varied customer base. DP World London Gateway represents a strategic location within the UK’s largest consumer market, and also provides excellent connections to the distribution golden triangle in the Midlands. Ultimately, the new site allows Wincanton to provide even greater service levels and coverage, driving efficiencies and helping to enhance nationwide transport operations. The site will provide truck parking alongside office facilities housing an on-site operations team.

Chris Fenton, MD Industrial & Transport, Wincanton said of the announcement: “As a major logistics provider, it’s important for us to make sure we have the right facilities in the right places. We’ve been moving customer containers in and out of DP World London Gateway since it opened, and have seen an increase in our customers’ needs in that location as the site has grown.

“The location has excellent links to our wider transport network, and this new facility represents a great opportunity to grow our presence in a key strategic location. I look forward to collaborating with our customers to ensure that they continue to reap the benefits of our substantial nationwide coverage as a result of this deal.”

Chris Lewis, CEO, DP World London Gateway, said: “Wincanton has recognised the excellent location and facilities of our site, and we have worked together to ensure that their customers can benefit from them.

“As the largest British logistics company, Wincanton has a vast transport network that spreads throughout the UK, and this new facility will only serve to reinforce that position.”

Wincanton currently operates from more than 200 locations across the UK and Ireland, with around 3,600 vehicles providing transport and distribution services.
