Specialist 3pl logistics provider, Europa Warehouse is celebrating the first anniversary of its 750,000 sq ft 3pl warehouse in Corby – Europa’s largest and most high-tech facility in the UK.
Since opening, the £60m site has allowed Europa Warehouse, a division of Europa Worldwide Group, to double its logistics portfolio, recruit over 250 individuals across a range of roles, from Operatives to Forklift Drivers and Shift Managers, and successfully expand its logistics operations for its mainly e-commerce and blue-chip online retailers.
Europa completed the facility in June 2020, opening on time as planned, despite the challenges of Covid-19. Maria Torrent March, Europa Warehouse’s Logistics Director explains why this was such a huge achievement for the team: “Opening the Corby site during the pandemic presented a number of challenges – not only did we have to follow all of the new regulations, social distancing, wearing PPE etc, we were having to continually reconfigure the design to accommodate our customers’ significant growth. It is absolutely amazing that we managed to open on time.”
Located on a 25-acre site at Midlands Logistics Park, the ground floor of the Corby warehouse alone is equivalent to seven premier league football pitches with 715,000 sq ft dedicated to logistics and 100,000 pallet spaces.
Maria continues: “It’s hard to believe it has been one year already – I am incredibly proud. Everyone has worked tirelessly and now we are seeing the results. Business is thriving and our customers are benefiting from our increased space and improved efficiencies. We have already achieved so much and have many more exciting innovations to announce soon.”
Constructed to a high-quality specification, the site includes above market standard 18 metre heights to facilitate three floors of mezzanines. To maximise the height of the building, racking has been built to nine levels and utilises the very latest VNA Linde technology.
Linde MH UK joined Europa on the project in August 2019 and together created a dedicated project team of five core staff from Linde – VNA support – Pallet Racking Design – Simulation – Commercial – Service to support Europa ensuring that all aspects of the design requirements where addressed.
Europa Warehouse provides a range of value-added capabilities including e-commerce fulfilment, production services, inventory management, packing, labelling, special deliveries, final assembly, quality control and critical parts management.
