Caledonian Logistics has hired Lesley Ewing as depot manager at Caledonian Logistics’ operation in Cumbernauld.
Lesley, who lives in Carnbroe, North Lanarkshire, is responsible for the efficient running of the depot, ensuring all legal and compliance obligations are met, taking charge for the maintenance of vehicles and equipment, workload planning for the 22-person team, as well as overseeing incoming and outbound freight for Palletways, of which Caledonian has been a member for over two decades.
As former co-owner of a small courier company, Lesley and her partner ran a small fleet of vans covering a range of contracts from newspaper deliveries for a major distributor in Scotland to parcel services, removals, and long distance and airport freight.
Commenting on why she was keen to join Caledonian Logistics, Lesley said “When you turn up to an interview to see senior management and the managing director weeding a yard, labouring, moving furniture and having a laugh while they’re doing it while still remaining operational, you know there’s tremendous team spirit there that many companies can only dream of.
“It’s great to know the senior management team see such potential in me and are investing in my development now and for the future and I can’t thank them enough for their support and guidance which has made my transition into this role an easy one. I want to do all I can to improve our operational efficiency across all areas of the business and looking forward, I want to continue on my career journey with Caledonian Logistics and see where it takes me!”
Derek Mitchell, Caledonian Logistics’ founder and managing director, added “The UK’s withdrawal from Europe has brough uncertainty and widespread change amongst supply chains and it’s certainly a challenging time for many logistics companies. I’m pleased to say that the wealth of knowledge and experience here at Caledonian meant we were in the best possible shape once we left the EU and with Lesley’s help, we’ve delivered a ‘business as usual’ service for our customers.”
Founded in 1999, Caledonian Logistics has grown significantly over the past two decades from a start-up to one that now employs more than 130 employees across three depots in Aberdeen, Cumbernauld and Inverness.
